Proofing Policy

Proofs exist for one reason: to prevent surprises.
This page explains when we send proofs, what “approval” means, and how proofing impacts turnaround.

When You’ll Receive a Proof

You may receive a digital proof when:

  • You request one at checkout, or
  • Your artwork/order includes elements that commonly cause issues (tiny text, borders, complex cuts, uncertain sizing), or
  • We need clarification before printing (missing bleed, ambiguous cut path, etc.)

Some orders may be printed without a proof if they are straightforward and you select “print as submitted.”

What a Proof Shows (and What It Doesn’t)

A proof is a layout and production preview:

  • Final size and placement
  • Cut shape (die cut / kiss cut)
  • Border intent (white border vs full bleed)
  • Safe areas and bleed

Important: Proofs are not a perfect color match. Screens vary, and print is physical.

What You Can Change During Proofing

Typically allowed:

  • Adjustments to size
  • Minor layout edits (repositioning elements)
  • Cutline tweaks (simplifying sharp corners, smoothing micro-inlets)
  • Border changes (white border thickness, full bleed setup)

May require a new quote or timeline:

  • Major artwork changes
  • Changing product type/material/finish
  • Increasing quantity significantly
  • Rebuilding low-res art into print-ready formats

How Proof Approval Works

Once you approve the proof, you’re confirming:

  • Spelling and text content
  • Final layout
  • Cutline shape and placement
  • Ordered specs (size, material, finish)

After approval, we print to the approved proof/specs. If a typo or layout issue was present on the approved proof, it may not be eligible for free reprint.

Proof Turnaround & Response Time

  • Proofs are typically sent within [X–Y business days] after order placement.
  • We recommend approving or requesting changes within [X business days] to avoid delays.

What Happens If We Don’t Hear Back?

Choose the rule you want here:

Option A (most common):

  • If we don’t hear back within [X days], your order may remain on hold until approval.

Option B (faster but riskier):

  • If we don’t hear back within [X days], we may proceed as “print as-is.”

(Pick one and delete the other.)

Proofing and Your Shipping Deadline

Production time starts after proof approval (if proofing is required/used). If you have a hard deadline, tell us before ordering so we can recommend the best path.

Need Help Approving?

If you’re unsure what you’re looking at, ask. We’d rather explain it than reprint it.
